Dior Haute Couture SS25 was a showcase of delicacy and romanticism, characteristic of the origins of the brand and Mr. Dior’s interpretation of femininity. In this collection, the Maison revisited the notions of naturalism present in the Miss Dior dress.
As is customary, Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborated on the scenery with artists hailing from India’s Chanakya School. Rithika Merchant was in charge of creating the frescoes present throughout the runway. Her watercolor works represent the strength of her female ancestors, as well as their influence on her. Pursuing her political work, Chiuri continues to seamlessly merge feminism with creativity in every runway.
For this season, a parade of looks reminiscent of the Victorian era appeared down the runway. From crinolines embedded in a garden of flowers to structured, fitted tailcoats and Edwardian collars in broderie anglaise and lace, the collection was a juxtaposition of past and present, romanticism and darkness.
While charming ensembles in pastel hues, taken from a Jane Austen novel, paraded down the runway representing innocence, dark, strong and black looks with mohawks created a different dynamic. Embodying the duality between the white swan and the black swan, the collection embraced a fantastic realm that unfolded into a modern fairytale.
Voluminous dresses, where ruffles and feathers provided movement and dramatic flair, were followed by transparencies, extravagant embellishments, and timeless pieces. Tailoring and construction were consistent throughout the show, proving the technical expertise of the brand.
The overall show was a theatrical display of fashion. Narratives based on historical references created a dream-like feeling, embedded with fantasy and creativity. A collection that merged past and present, reality and imagination, through a tapestry of well-constructed garments, luxurious fabrics, and body-flattering designs.
