When it comes to trends, one that we’ve been seeing everywhere is the hot pants. From celebrities to influencers to New York Fashion Week street style to the runway, these shorts are the industry’s favorite trend right now. Slightly scandalous, subtly sexy, and undeniably feminine, this trend eased into summer as celebrities alike sported these tiny shorts with a lightweight knit, bare legs, and a pair of sandals. But it didn’t stop there. Into the fall and well into winter now, the hot pants are as relevant as ever – being seen paired with bodysuits and chunky sweaters complete with a sheer pair of tights for a barely-there layer of warmth, and probably a pair of pointed toe heels or knee-high boots.
Effortlessly cool, this trend isn’t for the weak. Playing on proportions, these shorts skim your bum and sit high at the thigh. Due to their size, these micro shorts add an air of controversy, and begs the question: is a great trend even a trend without a little controversy?
