Laura Madden: Arizona’s Visionary Artist Combining Elegance and Sustainability

Blending Creativity and Sustainability to Transform Spaces and Lives

Laura Madden, an Arizona-based artist, is redefining the relationship between sustainability and abstract art. Through her transformative works—ranging from paintings to sculptural pieces—Madden blends luxury aesthetics with a commitment to reclaiming materials, creating an entirely unique artistic voice. Her work is a testament to the belief that art can be both meaningful and beautiful, serving as a bridge between emotional expression and environmental responsibility.

A Late Blooming Artistic Journey

“I never took my passion seriously,” Laura Madden admits when reflecting on her early days as an artist. Though she’s always had an affinity for art, sketching fashion, faces, and homes in an abstract style since childhood, she didn’t embrace art as a career until adulthood. For much of her life, art was a deeply personal outlet, one she kept hidden as she created pieces exclusively for her own home.

In late 2019, everything changed. Realizing that art was not just a pastime but a calling, she took the leap to pursue it professionally. “All I really wanted to do was create art,” Madden shares. She decided to share her passion with the world, marking the beginning of a flourishing career defined by elegance, creativity, and sustainability. “I couldn’t outrun it anymore,” she recalls, describing the moment she finally accepted herself as an artist.

Abstract Art: Freedom Without Boundaries

For Laura Madden, abstract art is more than a medium—it is liberation. “Abstract art feels like complete freedom to me,” she explains. “It’s the freedom to fully express myself without parameters or guidelines to follow—there are no rules.” Her intuitive process of creation is influenced by her energy and emotions at any given moment. Whether working on bold black-and-white paintings or incorporating vibrant textures, her works reflect a harmonious blend of spontaneity and control.

Madden’s signature style often involves antique frames, which she collects and pairs with her minimalist abstract works. “I love putting sparse, minimal art in ornate antique frames,” she says. This contrast between modern simplicity and historical detail adds depth and character to her pieces. She also pushes boundaries by incorporating textiles, plastics, and wood, resulting in dynamic sculptural works.

It was upon walking into Laura’s home, which stands as a living showroom to the various pieces of art she has created over the years, a painting that stood out amongst the rest. A black and white abstract creation of brushstrokes, one of her many signatures, but this piece was framed in the most opulent and ornate gold frame that aesthetically speaking, provided the WOW-factor. One of her favorites, as she mentioned, due to the back story of how this piece was a turning point in her career, but the name is what we were drawn to, Savoir-Faire. Fitting isn’t it? Perfection, we might say.

Laura’s studio sits in a small structure in the backyard of her home. A private space with scattered paint tubes, and brushes, wood planks of test montages colors swirling together. It’s better than you could imagine, it’s a room of a genuine creative, raw and real. Madden’s work stands out not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its deep commitment to sustainability. She repurposes discarded materials such as fabric scraps, distressed textiles, and even chef’s coats to create multi-dimensional art pieces. Materials in which you could see laying all around her studio. “I just couldn’t throw these materials away—they felt like treasures waiting to be transformed,” she says. This ethos aligns her work with that of Louise Nevelson, one of her inspirations, who similarly used reclaimed materials to create groundbreaking art.

The Heart Collection: Art with Meaning

One creation that captured our ‘heart’s was Madden’s Le Bon Coeur (The Good Heart) Collection, which represents her most personal work to date. Featuring abstract heart motifs crafted from fabric remnants and framed in striking designs, this limited-edition collection embodies compassion, acceptance, and love. “It’s a universal symbol of positivity,” Madden explains, “and a reminder to act from a kind heart.” With the polarizing nature of the modern world, Madden hopes this collection offers viewers a moment of warmth and reflection.

“Art offers you a transformation for your state of being—it really is empowering.” – Laura Madden

Laura Madden’s collections are both deeply personal and universally resonant, each imbued with its own distinctive essence. By working with diverse materials, she creates a wide range of styles, offering something unique for every collector to consider adding to their own curated spaces.

Madden’s collections are as diverse as they are personal, each carrying its own narrative:

  • The Black-and-White Series: A study in contrasts, this collection explores the interplay of light, shadow, and texture, with antique frames adding a historical element.
  • The Heart Collection: A celebration of compassion and love, this series transforms fabric remnants into dimensional, abstract heart motifs.
  • Sculptural Works: Madden pushes boundaries with mixed-media sculptures that combine textiles, wood, and plastics for a three-dimensional impact.

Each piece invites viewers to see beauty in transformation and to find their own stories within her art.

Having always been inspired by fashion and design, Madden describes her creative process as inherently “fashionable.” She draws inspiration from glossy magazines, designer aesthetics, and even the natural beauty of mountain views, integrating these influences into her work. This blend of high style and artistic expression makes her pieces resonate deeply with collectors seeking sophistication and creativity in their spaces.

Madden’s background in fashion and design heavily influences her creative process. “I approach my art like fashion—it’s about creating something stylish and fresh,” she shares. This fashionable perspective is evident in her work, which feels as though it could seamlessly transition from a runway to a gallery wall.

Art That Transforms Spaces and Lives

Madden emphasizes the transformational power of art in the home. “For my collectors, having my art in their homes makes them feel like they are living their best life,” she explains. Whether it’s the boldness of her black-and-white pieces, the heartfelt resonance of her heart collection, or the depth of her sculptural works, Madden’s art creates an atmosphere of empowerment and refinement.

Madden continues to host intimate events and cocktail parties for her collectors, showcasing her work in a home setting to help clients envision her art in their own spaces. While she recently concluded a busy season of shows, she plans to host another gathering before the end of the year. Her home studio remains the primary venue for viewing and purchasing her work, emphasizing the personal connection she fosters with her audience.
